Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior official said the incident made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
